The Minister of
Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, Amal Falah Seghrouchni, has
stressed the growing importance of parliamentary oversight in artificial
intelligence (AI) governance during her participation in a high-level dialogue
session at the Marrakech Parliamentary Economic Forum for the
Euro-Mediterranean Region and the Gulf. The session, titled "Artificial
Intelligence and its Governance: Strengthening Parliamentary Oversight,"
highlighted Morocco’s proactive approach to regulating AI in line with global
technological advancements.

Minister
Seghrouchni stressed the urgent need to strengthen legislative and regulatory
frameworks for AI, given its rapid integration across various sectors. She
underscored Morocco’s commitment to digital transformation, guided by the
vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, which positions the Kingdom as an
active player in the digital economy.
The Minister
revealed that her department is currently drafting an AI framework law,
developed in collaboration with key stakeholders. This legislation will outline
fundamental principles, compliance requirements, oversight mechanisms, and
ethical safeguards to ensure the responsible deployment of AI technologies in
Morocco.
In a
significant announcement, Minister Seghrouchni disclosed plans for a national
debate on artificial intelligence, scheduled for July 1 and 2. This initiative
aims to foster inclusive discussions among policymakers, industry leaders,
academics, and civil society to shape Morocco’s AI strategy.

Additionally,
the Ministry will establish a dedicated AI directorate under the Delegate
Ministry in charge of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform. This new
structure will be tasked with formulating, coordinating, and monitoring public
policies related to artificial intelligence, ensuring alignment with national development
goals.
