Nigerian minister celebrates Guinness World Record achievement in GPS technology

Nigeria's Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani has extended heartfelt congratulations to Oluwatobi Oyinlola for securing a Guinness World Record by creating the smallest GPS tracking device ever documented. Measuring just 22.93 mm by 11.92 mm (0.90 x 0.46 inches), the breakthrough prototype was officially recognized in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on April 27, 2025. 

In a heartfelt Linkedin announcement, Dr. Tijani reflected on his early support for Oyinlola’s IoT startup, emphasizing the innovator’s relentless drive to push technological boundaries. "Long before this global recognition, I witnessed Oluwatobi’s brilliance firsthand," the Minister remarked. "His journey—now advancing at MIT—exemplifies the extraordinary potential within Nigeria’s tech ecosystem." 

The milestone reinforces Nigeria’s commitment to fostering homegrown talent in frontier technologies. Dr. Tijani highlighted the achievement as validation of the government’s strategy to position Nigeria as a leader in global innovation. "By empowering young pioneers like Oluwatobi, we are not just breaking records—we are redefining what’s possible for African ingenuity on the world stage," he added. 

Dr. Oyinlola’s feat in miniaturizing GPS technology has significant implications for logistics, healthcare, and security applications. The Minister’s public endorsement underscores the administration’s focus on converting Nigeria’s demographic dividend into tangible technological advancements.
