President John
Dramani Mahama has officially launched the One Million Coders program, a
landmark initiative designed to equip Ghanaian youth with critical digital
skills for the future job market. The program, spearheaded by the Ministry of
Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, underscores the government’s
commitment to advancing Ghana’s digital economy and fostering inclusive
growth.

During the
launch event, President Mahama mentioned the program’s role in resetting
Ghana’s development agenda through technology and innovation. “This
initiative is more than just coding—it’s about empowering our youth to become
drivers of economic transformation,” he stated. The program aims to bridge
the digital divide by providing accessible training opportunities, particularly
for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, ensuring no one is left behind
in the digital revolution.

Minister Samuel
Nartey George highlighted the program’s alignment with the government’s 120-day
social contract, reaffirming its dedication to delivering tangible results. “By
equipping one million Ghanaians with coding skills, we are not only preparing
them for high-demand jobs but also positioning Ghana as a leader in Africa’s
digital landscape,” he said.

The One Million
Coders initiative is expected to play a pivotal role in Ghana’s broader digital
transformation strategy, fostering innovation, reducing inequality, and
creating a skilled workforce ready to tackle global technological challenges.
