The Ministry of
Information and Communication Technology (MICT) has allocated N$20 million in
seed funding to establish the Namibia Cybersecurity Incident Report Team
(NAM-CSIRT), marking a significant step in the country's digital security
strategy. Announced by ICT Minister Emma Theofelus during the team's official
launch in Windhoek, the investment will enhance Namibia's capacity to detect,
analyze, and mitigate cyber threats.

The funding
will enable NAM-CSIRT to deploy advanced threat intelligence tools, upgrade
critical software and hardware infrastructure, and train specialized personnel
to safeguard national digital assets. Minister Theofelus outline the
initiative's role in protecting Namibia's growing digital economy, ensuring
secure online transactions, and defending against escalating cyber threats
targeting government and private sector systems.

NAM-CSIRT will
operate as Namibia's central hub for cybersecurity incident reporting and
response, collaborating with regional and international partners to share
threat intelligence and best practices. The team's establishment aligns with
the government's broader efforts to create a resilient digital ecosystem,
fostering trust in e-government services and supporting the country's digital
transformation agenda.
