French Guiana joins Caribbean Telecommunications Union

French
Guiana has formally acceded to the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU),
marking a significant step in strengthening its regional integration and
advancing its digital development agenda.
The
accession follows months of preparatory work that began in early 2024 and
culminated in the official signing of the agreement, positioning the territory
within a broader Caribbean framework for telecommunications cooperation.
Officials
involved in the process described the move as a strategic milestone that
enhances French Guiana’s engagement with Caribbean partners and aligns its
digital ambitions with regional initiatives focused on connectivity,
innovation, and policy coordination.
The
agreement was supported by CTU leadership, including Rodney Taylor, and
facilitated through engagements with regional stakeholders such as Dominic
Smith. Local leadership, including Gabriel Serville, also played a key role in
advancing the initiative.
The
accession is expected to open new opportunities for collaboration in
telecommunications infrastructure, regulatory alignment, and digital
transformation efforts across the Caribbean region.
Stakeholders
indicated that the signing represents the beginning of deeper cooperation, with
further engagements and regional initiatives planned to continue building
momentum in the coming months.
