The
European Union and Japan have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening digital
cooperation following the fourth Digital Partnership Council, focusing on
emerging technologies and regulatory alignment across key sectors.
The
discussions brought together senior representatives from both sides to advance
collaboration in areas including artificial intelligence, quantum technologies,
digital identity systems, semiconductors, data governance, and online
platforms.

According
to Henna Virkkunen, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for
Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy, the partnership is increasingly
delivering tangible outcomes through regulatory cooperation and structured
industry engagement.
As
part of the latest outcomes, the two sides agreed to establish a Data Strategy
Working Group and signed a Cooperation Agreement on online platforms, aimed at
strengthening coordination on digital governance and platform regulation.

Officials
said the agreements reflect a shared ambition to support innovation while
ensuring that emerging technologies are developed and deployed in a way that
serves the public interest and maintains economic competitiveness.
The
EU and Japan also emphasized continued collaboration with industry stakeholders
to accelerate practical implementation of agreed initiatives and reinforce
resilience in critical digital sectors.
