Ethiopia
has presented its vision for hosting the 32nd United Nations Climate Change
Conference (COP32) during a high-level ministerial roundtable at the 12th
Session of the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development in Addis Ababa.
Minister
of Foreign Affairs Gedion Timothewos delivered remarks at the session, which
focused on unlocking finance for climate resilience and sustainable development
across Africa.
He
emphasised the need to move beyond climate finance pledges toward concrete
implementation, calling for mechanisms that ensure funding translates into
tangible outcomes for countries facing climate challenges.

The
minister highlighted the importance of innovative financing approaches that
combine public funding, private sector investment, and support from
international financial institutions to address Africa’s climate and
development needs.
Ethiopia
is set to host COP32 in November 2027, with officials positioning the event as
an opportunity to advance global climate action while addressing the
continent’s priorities in resilience and sustainable growth.
The
forum has convened ministers responsible for finance, social affairs, climate
change, and development from across Africa to discuss strategies for
accelerating progress on sustainable development goals and strengthening
climate action.
Stakeholders
at the event stressed the importance of coordinated efforts to mobilise
resources and drive impactful solutions to climate-related challenges facing
the continent.
