The
National Information Technology Authority-Uganda (NITA-U) has officially broken
ground on the country’s first Service Uganda Centre in Gulu, marking a major
step in expanding accessible government services through digital
infrastructure. The initiative is a collaborative effort with the Ministry of
Public Service, Ministry of Works and Transport, Ministry of ICT and National
Guidance, and Posta Uganda.

The
Service Uganda Centres, part of the UDAP-GovNet project, aim to provide a
one-stop physical hub where citizens can access a wide range of public
services. These include passport and immigration services, tax and TIN
registration, business and company registration, and driving permits, among
others. Additional centres are planned for Mbarara and Tororo.
Dr.
Hatwib Mugasa, Executive Director of NITA-U, emphasized that the initiative
seeks to remove barriers related to distance and digital literacy, ensuring
that technology enhances government accessibility.

By
integrating the UGHub platform into Posta Uganda facilities, the centres are
designed to bring essential services closer to citizens and support Uganda’s
ongoing digital transformation agenda.
