The
African Centre of Meteorological Applications for Development (ACMAD) is
convening a continental knowledge-sharing workshop in Kigali, Rwanda, bringing
together climate experts and meteorological institutions from across Africa to
strengthen collaboration on climate prediction and information services.
The
workshop, taking place from March 9 to 13 alongside the African Climate Outlook
Forum 20 (ACCOF20), has gathered representatives from Regional Climate Centres
(RCCs) and National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) across the
continent.

The
event is being organized by ACMAD in collaboration with the IGAD Climate
Prediction and Applications Centre (ICPAC), Meteo Rwanda, and the UK Met Office
under the WISER PASS Project, alongside other partners.
Participants
are focusing on strengthening coordination among African climate centres,
harmonizing tools and methodologies used by Regional Climate Centres, and
sharing operational practices and scientific advances related to seasonal and
sub-seasonal climate forecasting.
The
workshop is also working toward establishing an Inter-RCC Community of Practice
aimed at promoting continuous technical exchange among climate institutions
across Africa.

In
addition, experts attending the forum are preparing to release the continental
climate outlook for the April–May–June–July 2026 season, which will provide
guidance for governments, climate-sensitive sectors, and development partners.
The
meeting also includes engagement sessions with key sectoral partners to promote
the co-production and wider use of climate information in decision-making
processes across the continent.
