Visa
and Afriland First Bank have signed a strategic partnership agreement aimed at
accelerating the adoption of digital payments and strengthening payment
infrastructure in Cameroon.
The
agreement was officially signed on March 11, 2026, in Yaoundé, marking a step
toward expanding access to modern financial services and supporting the growth
of the country’s digital economy.

According
to Ines Amani, Director of Business Development for Central Africa and Regional
Groups at Visa, the collaboration is expected to play a key role in advancing
innovation and improving payment systems in Cameroon.
The
partnership will focus on accelerating the issuance and large-scale adoption of
payment cards and digital payment solutions, expanding electronic payment
acceptance among merchants, and deploying secure and innovative payment
technologies tailored to local market needs.
Officials
noted that strengthening payment infrastructure is increasingly important as
economies across Central Africa undergo digital transformation, with modern
payment systems seen as key drivers of financial inclusion, business
competitiveness, and economic growth.

Both
institutions expressed confidence that the collaboration will support the
development of a more inclusive and efficient payments ecosystem in Cameroon
while unlocking new opportunities for businesses and consumers in the region.
