Climate
policy experts, think tanks, and key stakeholders from across Africa have
convened in Johannesburg, South Africa, for a two-day meeting focused on
scaling up climate adaptation finance on the continent.

The
gathering, organised by Kenya’s Office of the Special Envoy on Climate Change
in collaboration with Power Shift Africa and South Africa’s Council for
Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), seeks to develop strategies to
strengthen Africa’s position on adaptation finance ahead of the upcoming COP30
in Belém, Brazil.
Participants
are engaging in discussions aimed at redefining how climate adaptation is
perceived and integrated into global climate negotiations, moving beyond
traditional approaches that have often left adaptation marginalized in
multilateral frameworks.

The
meeting also aims to propose conceptual frameworks and policy responses that
will enable Africa to pursue climate-positive growth, ensuring that adaptation
efforts contribute not only to resilience but also to sustainable economic
development for the continent and its people.
