The
National Information and Technology Agency (NITA) has pledged an unwavering
commitment to driving transformation and supporting all stakeholders in the
country in their efforts to embrace the digital of the future.
According
to the country’s ICT regulator, it will collaborate with stakeholders from the
public and private sectors, academia, and civil society to create a
comprehensive program of events, workshops, and exhibitions.
Speaking
at the launching of the first-ever National ICT Week in Accra, the
Director-General of NITA, Richard Okyere-Fosu emphasised that the convergence
of technology and sustainable development presents stakeholders within the
country’s ICT ecosystem with an unparalleled opportunity to build a Ghana that
is innovative, inclusive, and sustainable.
“Our
goal is to foster a collaborative environment where ideas, innovations, and
knowledge could be shared freely, leading to novel solutions for the challenges
we face. This will be the backbone for subsequent events and ingenuity of
Ghanaian innovations,” he stated.

Highlighting
the recently launched Government Cloud (G-Cloud), aimed at providing Cloud
services to government institutions, Mr Okyere-Fosu explained that this fosters
innovation in the creation of software and the hosting needs for government IT
departments.
“Due
to the favourable environment, private businesses like PAIX, ONIX, and MainOne
have created Tier 4 and Tier 3 data centres, respectively, to support both
private and public sector operations,” he noted.
He
then announced a collaboration between Ghana and Smart Africa to create
federated Cloud solutions throughout the continent to accomplish two crucial
goals: creating locally consumable content and keeping the data we produce on
the continent.

“I
am proud to witness the transformative impact of ICT initiatives across various
sectors in Ghana. From improving healthcare access in remote regions through
telemedicine to enhancing agricultural productivity with precision farming
techniques, ICT has shown its potential to create meaningful change in the lives
of our people.”
National
ICT Week is a week-long commemorative event established by the National
Information and Technology Agency (NITA) to celebrate the significance,
relevance and contribution of ICT to national development. This launch
was in collaboration with the World Technology Forum, and partnership with
Smart Infraco. E Solutions, MTN and MESTI.
