The National Information
Technology Authority-Uganda (NITA-U) is participating in discussions on
strengthening the security, stability and multilingual nature of the Domain
Name System (DNS) at the 87th meeting of the Internet Corporation for Assigned
Names and Numbers (ICANN87) in Bali, Indonesia.
Gloria Atwine Katuuku,
Director of Planning, Research and Development at NITA-U, joined a panel on
policy implementation for a secure, stable and multilingual DNS, representing
the Government of Uganda at the Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC) of ICANN.
The discussions examined
practical ways to strengthen security and trust in the DNS while keeping it
open, supporting innovation and protecting the multistakeholder model of
Internet governance.
The engagement highlighted
the importance of cooperation among governments, the private sector, civil
society and the technical community in building an Internet that is secure,
accessible and inclusive for everyone.
Katuuku’s participation
forms part of Uganda’s representation in international discussions on Internet
governance and policy implementation through ICANN, which coordinates key
technical functions that support the global Internet’s domain name system.
