Senegal’s Minister of
Telecommunications and Digital Affairs, Samba Diouf, has reaffirmed the
government’s commitment to securing the country’s digital environment and
protecting intellectual property amid concerns over the illicit dissemination
of content on the internet.
Diouf held discussions with
a delegation from CANAL+ Group, led by Aziz Diallo, Managing Director for
Francophone Africa, to examine challenges relating to online content
distribution, the interests of creators and the protection of state revenues.
The working meeting was also
attended by Mamadou Lamine Sene, President of the Steering Committee of the
Telecommunications Universal Service Development Fund (FDSUT).
The discussions focused on
how to guarantee intellectual property protection in the face of the illicit
dissemination of online content, while preserving the viability of Senegal’s
digital ecosystem and safeguarding the interests of creators and state revenues.
The minister reaffirmed his
willingness to support initiatives aimed at cleaning up and securing the
national digital environment.
The parties also agreed on
the need for a concerted approach involving regulatory authorities, including
the National Audiovisual Regulatory Council (CNRA) and the Telecommunications
and Posts Regulatory Authority (ARTP), alongside telecommunications operators.
The proposed cooperation is
to be pursued in strict compliance with the independence of the supervisory
authorities and the existing regulatory framework.
