The National Commission on
Research, Science and Technology (NCRST) has recognised outstanding learners,
teachers, schools and regions for their achievements in mathematics and science
at its 2026 Mathematics and Science Promotional Programmes Awards Ceremony.
The ceremony was held at the
Windhoek Country Club, bringing together participants from the National Science
Quiz, Namibia Mathematics Olympiad and National Science Fair.
Erongo Region emerged as the
winner of the National Science Quiz, followed by Kavango East Region as first
runner-up and Kunene Region as second runner-up.
In the Namibia Mathematics
Olympiad, Helena Haikali from the Omusati Region and African Olympiad Academy
was recognised as the Best Performing Female Learner, while Roland K. Ndjamba
from Kavango East Region and African Olympiad Academy was named Best Performing
Learner. Oshana Region won the regional competition, with Oshikoto Region
finishing as runner-up.
The National Science Fair
also recognised individual learners and schools across the primary and
secondary phases. Kevin Otto of Walvis Bay Primary School in the Erongo Region
emerged as the Overall Winner in the Primary Phase, while Izak Burger of Windhoek
High School in the Khomas Region was named Overall Winner in the Secondary
Phase.
Oranjemund Private School in
the //Kharas Region and Khoandawes Primary School in the Omaheke Region were
joint runners-up in the Primary Phase, while Mwadikange Kaulinge Secondary
School in the Ohangwena Region was runner-up in the Secondary Phase. Erongo
Region was named the Overall Winning Region of the National Science Fair.
NCRST expressed appreciation
to sponsors and partners whose support contributed to the implementation of the
2026 Mathematics and Science Promotional Programmes and the awards ceremony.
The Commission also
congratulated the participating learners and acknowledged the contribution of
parents, teachers, principals, schools, regional coordinators and other
stakeholders to the success of the programmes.
