Senegal
has presented its vision for building a trusted, inclusive and
innovation-driven artificial intelligence ecosystem at the Hiroshima AI Process
(HAIP) Friends Group Meeting in Tokyo, highlighting the country's ambition to
become a leading AI innovation hub in Africa.
Representing
the country at the international gathering, Senegal's Ministry of
Telecommunications and Digital Affairs outlined key elements of its digital
transformation agenda, including the New
Deal Technologique, which places artificial intelligence at the
centre of national economic and technological development.
A
major focus of Senegal's presentation was Priority Programme No. 8, which includes the
establishment of the Senegal Digital
Factory and the Senegal
AI Factory. The initiatives are designed to strengthen the
country's artificial intelligence capabilities by supporting innovation,
startup development, research, talent cultivation and international
collaboration.
The
meeting also provided Senegal with an opportunity to present its emerging
National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, which seeks to create a framework
for responsible AI development while expanding investment in digital
infrastructure, research, skills development and innovation.
Officials
used the platform to engage with international partners on potential areas of
cooperation, including AI infrastructure, capacity building, scientific
research, innovation ecosystems and governance frameworks for trustworthy
artificial intelligence.
The
Hiroshima AI Process Friends Group brings together governments and
international organizations to promote global cooperation on the safe, secure
and responsible development and use of artificial intelligence.
