Uganda has launched the
Updated National Information Security Framework (NISF) 2026, a new
cybersecurity framework designed to help institutions strengthen cyber
resilience, protect national information assets and support the country's
digital transformation agenda.
The framework was launched
by the Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Rt. Hon. Justine Kasule Lumumba,
who said information security has become a matter of national security,
economic development, public service delivery and public trust.
The NISF 2026 provides
practical guidance, cybersecurity assessment tools and minimum security
controls intended to help government institutions and other organisations
improve their cybersecurity posture and respond more effectively to emerging
threats.
According to the Ministry,
the framework will enable institutions to assess their cybersecurity maturity,
identify vulnerabilities and implement measures to strengthen resilience
against increasingly sophisticated cyber risks.
Lumumba said the updated
framework is intended to support a secure, resilient and trusted digital Uganda
as the country continues expanding digital services and connectivity.
The Ministry noted that the
framework will serve as a national reference point for cybersecurity management
and support institutions in safeguarding sensitive information while advancing
the government's digital transformation objectives.
