Rwanda’s Minister of ICT and
Innovation, Paula Ingabire, has co-chaired the second meeting of the Africa AI
Council under Smart Africa, where members validated the Council’s Two-Year
Strategic Plan aimed at advancing Africa’s artificial intelligence sovereignty.
The meeting brought together
members of the Council to strengthen a shared continental approach to
artificial intelligence development through coordinated action in talent
development, governance and innovation.
During the session,
participants reviewed and endorsed strategic priorities designed to support
Africa’s ability to develop, govern and deploy AI technologies that respond to
the continent’s unique needs and opportunities.
The validated Two-Year
Strategic Plan focuses on building stronger AI capabilities across Africa by
promoting collaboration, strengthening policy frameworks and supporting
innovation ecosystems that can accelerate responsible AI adoption.
The Africa AI Council,
established under Smart Africa, serves as a platform for African stakeholders
to coordinate efforts around AI governance, skills development, investment and
innovation as countries seek to harness artificial intelligence for sustainable
development.
