Senegal has played a key
role in global discussions on artificial intelligence governance by co-chairing
a high-level session during the Global Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence
focused on addressing gaps in AI capacity, access and digital foundations.
Through the Ministry of
Telecommunications and Digital Affairs, Senegal co-chaired Cluster 2 of the
dialogue, which examined the theme “AI Opportunities and Implications: Bridging
AI Divides – Capacity-Building, Access and Digital Foundations.”
The session brought together
ministers, representatives from international organizations, technology experts
and development partners to discuss strategies for ensuring more inclusive
artificial intelligence development worldwide.
Discussions highlighted the
need for sustained investments in digital infrastructure, skills development,
research, data ecosystems, local innovation and international cooperation to
reduce disparities in access to AI technologies.
During the session, Senegal
emphasized that developing countries must have a meaningful role in the design,
governance and deployment of artificial intelligence systems to ensure that
these technologies reflect local realities, languages and development priorities.
The country also presented
the ambitions of its New Deal Technologique initiative, which places digital
skills development, artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure and
innovation at the centre of Senegal’s digital transformation agenda.
Senegal’s participation at
the Global Dialogue on AI Governance reflects its commitment to promoting
ethical, inclusive and accessible artificial intelligence while advancing
digital sovereignty and sustainable development.
The Global Dialogue
continues to bring together governments, international institutions, industry
leaders and civil society stakeholders to develop approaches for responsible AI
governance and ensure that emerging technologies contribute to shared global
prosperity.
