Côte d’Ivoire and the
International Telecommunication Union (ITU) have reaffirmed their commitment to
advancing digital development through enhanced cooperation in key areas,
including electronic waste management, emergency telecommunications, digital skills
development and ICT statistics.
The discussions took place
in Geneva between Côte d’Ivoire’s Minister of Digital Transition and
Technological Innovation, Djibril Ouattara, and the Director of the ITU
Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT), Dr. Cosmas Zavazava, on the
sidelines of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum and the
inaugural UN Global Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence Governance.
During the meeting, the two
officials reviewed ongoing collaboration between Côte d’Ivoire and the ITU,
with particular emphasis on initiatives aimed at strengthening the country's
digital ecosystem and supporting sustainable digital transformation.
The discussions covered
efforts to improve the management of electronic waste, enhance emergency
telecommunications capabilities and expand digital skills programmes to support
workforce development and digital inclusion.
