Benin has recognized 20
outstanding young participants following the conclusion of the inaugural
National Artificial Intelligence Olympiad (NOAI), marking a significant step in
the country's efforts to develop digital and artificial intelligence skills among
its youth.
The first edition of the
competition concluded on 27 June 2026, with 16 candidates selected based on the
overall rankings and four additional winners recognized to promote the
participation of young girls in science and digital technology.
During a ceremony held on 4
July at Sèmè One in Sèmè City, the 20 winners received preparation kits before
beginning an intensive bootcamp that will prepare them for the final selection
of Benin's national team for the 2026 International Artificial Intelligence
Olympiad.
At the end of the training
programme, eight participants will be selected to represent Benin at the
International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad, scheduled to take place in
Astana, Kazakhstan, from 2 to 8 August 2026.
The presentation ceremony
was attended by the Minister of Digital Transformation and Innovation, Mahuna
Akplogan, who oversees the implementation of Benin's National Artificial
Intelligence Strategy, alongside the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific
Research, Dr. Sèdami Medegan Fagla, and the Minister of Secondary Education,
Clément Kouchadé.
The participation of the
three ministers underscored the government's commitment to strengthening
scientific and digital competencies among young people as part of the National
Strategy for Artificial Intelligence and Big Data (SNIAM 2023–2027).
The National Artificial
Intelligence Olympiad forms part of Benin's broader strategy to build a skilled
workforce capable of contributing to the country's digital transformation while
increasing youth participation in emerging technologies.
A total of 150 young people
participated in the inaugural competition, with government officials commending
all participants for their commitment and determination throughout the contest.
