Namibia and ITU explore stronger partnership to drive youth digital innovation

Namibia's Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus has held discussions with the International Telecommunication Union's Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) on strengthening cooperation to promote digital innovation and expand opportunities for young people.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Global Dialogue on AI Governance in Geneva, Switzerland. The Minister was accompanied by Namibia's Ambassador to the Swiss Confederation and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva, His Excellency Elvis T. Shiweda.

During the discussions, Theofelus emphasized the importance of enhancing collaboration between the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology and the ITU's Telecommunication Development Bureau to support youth-focused digital initiatives and accelerate Namibia's digital development agenda.

She highlighted the need to create more opportunities for innovation, entrepreneurship and digital skills development that will enable young Namibians to participate more effectively in the country's growing digital economy.

Dr. Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, Director of the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau, reaffirmed the Bureau's commitment to supporting Namibia's digital transformation efforts.

He said the ITU stands ready to work closely with the Ministry to identify practical areas of cooperation aimed at promoting digital innovation and expanding opportunities for Namibian youth.

The meeting forms part of ongoing engagements between Namibia and international partners to strengthen digital capacity, foster innovation and advance inclusive digital development through strategic collaboration.
