The Chief Regulatory Officer
of GSMA and President of the Mobile for Development Foundation, John Giusti,
has emphasized the growing global collaboration within the mobile industry to
accelerate climate action and advance sustainability goals.
He made the remarks
following the third annual GSMA Climate Action Forum, where he opened
discussions bringing together industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders
committed to reducing the environmental impact of mobile networks while
expanding global connectivity.
Giusti noted that what began
as a shared ambition has evolved into a coordinated global initiative, with the
GSMA Climate Action Taskforce now comprising more than 80 mobile operators
across nearly every region of the world.
He explained that as demand
for digital connectivity continues to grow and networks evolve, collaboration
has become essential to ensuring that the telecommunications sector strengthens
resilience, reduces carbon emissions, and fosters innovation simultaneously.
The Forum served as a
platform for participants to exchange insights on climate resilience
strategies, sustainable infrastructure development, and pathways for achieving
net-zero targets within the mobile industry.
Giusti expressed
appreciation to speakers and participants for contributing to what he described
as rich and engaging discussions, noting that the quality of dialogue
demonstrated the significant progress that can be achieved through collective
industry action.
He further indicated that
the momentum from the Forum will feed into the upcoming launch of Mobile Net
Zero 2026, which will outline further commitments and strategies aimed at
advancing the industry’s climate objectives.
