The Government of Kenya has
launched three new digital hubs in Olkalou Constituency, Nyandarua County, as
part of ongoing efforts to expand digital access and strengthen skills
development among young people.
The hubs were officially
launched by Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Communications
and the Digital Economy, H.E. William Kabogo Gitau. The facilities include the
Wiyumiririe Digital Hub in Kanjuiri Ward, the Mirangine Digital Hub in
Mirangine Ward, and the Passenga Digital Hub in Rurii Ward.
According to the ICT
Authority, the new hubs are designed to provide communities with access to
digital services, internet connectivity and training opportunities aimed at
improving digital literacy and employability.
Ahead of the official
launch, the ICT Authority conducted digital skills training sessions and
ensured that the hubs were fully equipped with internet connectivity to support
immediate use by the local population.
The government said the
initiative forms part of its broader strategy to bridge the digital divide,
create employment opportunities and empower young people with relevant digital
competencies needed to participate in the modern economy.
Officials noted that
expanding access to digital infrastructure at the community level remains
central to Kenya’s ambition of building an inclusive and innovation-driven
digital economy.
The newly launched hubs are
expected to serve as access points for education, entrepreneurship, and digital
services, contributing to local socio-economic development and strengthening
Kenya’s national digital transformation agenda.
