The Africa Centres for
Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), in collaboration with the
Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), has convened a
Validation Workshop aimed at establishing a Regional Access and Supply
Consortium for Vaccine Manufacturing Input Materials.
The initiative brought
together key manufacturers, suppliers, and strategic partners to design a
market-driven framework intended to improve access to essential vaccine
production inputs, streamline procurement processes, and enhance the resilience
of Africa’s emerging vaccine manufacturing ecosystem.
Participants at the workshop
confirmed the relevance and feasibility of the proposed consortium, endorsing
its governance structure and service priorities. They also agreed on a Tier-1
list of critical input materials to guide the initial phase of implementation.
Discussions further focused
on operational requirements, financing mechanisms, and alignment with the
African Pooled Procurement Mechanism to ensure coordination and efficiency in
sourcing and distribution.
According to organisers, the
outcomes of the workshop mark an important step toward strengthening regional
supply chains and advancing sustainable vaccine manufacturing on the continent.
The initiative is positioned
as part of broader efforts to reinforce Africa’s health security architecture
and support long-term sovereignty in vaccine production and access.
