The
Republic of Congo has reiterated its ambition to position itself as a leading
digital transit and technology hub in Central Africa, following a series of
engagements held on the sidelines of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Annual
Meetings in Brazzaville.
Congo
Telecom Chief Executive Officer Yves Castanou held strategic discussions with
key continental infrastructure and financing stakeholders, including the
African Guarantee and Economic Cooperation Fund (FAGACE) and Africa50, as part
of efforts to mobilise investment into digital infrastructure and strengthen
regional connectivity frameworks.
Speaking
at a conference on “Building resilient energy, transport and digital
infrastructure for regional integration,” Castanou emphasised that Africa’s
telecommunications transformation depends fundamentally on the quality,
density, and scalability of underlying infrastructure. He noted that
sustainable sector growth requires structured investment capable of supporting
rising demand and advancing regional integration objectives.
In
a parallel development, a delegation from Congo Telecom visited Kinshasa on
June 3, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to deepen cross-border cooperation
with operators in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The delegation, led by the
company’s Managing Director and including senior executives from the enterprise
and wholesale division, held courtesy meetings with Orange DRC, Airtel, and
Vodacom Congo.
Discussions
focused on opportunities for enhanced regional collaboration, particularly in
interconnection, wholesale capacity trading, and international roaming
services. These areas were identified as critical levers for improving digital
traffic flows between the two countries and strengthening sub-regional
integration.
Yves
Castanou described Congo Telecom as more than a national operator, positioning
it instead as a regional stakeholder committed to building long-term
partnerships across African telecom markets. He stressed that trust-based
cooperation remains central to sustainable industry relationships.
Congo
Telecom has identified its wholesale business segment as a strategic growth
pillar, particularly in interconnection agreements and capacity resale, as it
seeks to expand its role within Central Africa’s evolving digital ecosystem.
The
company said strengthening partnerships with operators in the Democratic
Republic of Congo, which collectively serve millions of subscribers, could
significantly enhance the Republic of Congo’s position as a regional
connectivity hub.
