Kenya
has announced that it will host the 4th Responsible AI in the Military Domain
(REAIM) Summit in April 2027 in Nairobi, positioning the country at the centre
of global discussions on artificial intelligence, security and international
cooperation.
The
announcement was made in Geneva during the AI, Security and Ethics Conference
by Kenya’s Special Envoy on Technology, Ambassador Philip Thigo, MBS, on behalf
of the Cabinet Secretary for Defence, Hon. Soipan Tuya.
The
summit is expected to bring together governments, defence institutions,
industry leaders, academia and international organizations to advance practical
approaches to responsible artificial intelligence in military and security
applications.
According
to the announcement, the 2027 summit will focus on strengthening capacity
building, institutional readiness, and international cooperation to ensure the
safe, ethical and accountable use of AI in defence and security contexts.
Ambassador
Thigo noted that Kenya’s hosting of the summit reflects its growing role in
global digital governance and its commitment to contributing to international
dialogue on emerging technologies and their implications for peace and
security.
He
added that the discussions in Nairobi will emphasize the need for deeper
collaboration between key stakeholders to ensure that artificial intelligence
is developed and deployed in a manner consistent with international law,
ethical standards and global security priorities.
The
REAIM Summit has become a key global platform for shaping policy conversations
around the responsible use of AI in military systems, as governments and
institutions seek to balance technological advancement with safeguards that
prevent misuse.
Kenya’s
hosting of the 2027 edition is expected to further strengthen its position as a
regional hub for technology diplomacy and digital policy engagement.
