The
Minister of Digital Economy, Digitalization and Innovation, Mark-Alexandre
Doumba, has held discussions with a delegation from the Canal+ Group on
measures to strengthen the fight against piracy of audiovisual content and
protect the digital economy.
The
Canal+ delegation, led by its International Chief Executive Officer and its
Chief Executive Officer for Gabon, met the minister during a working session
focused on the growing impact of illegal content distribution on value
creation, investment protection, and the sustainability of the media and
communications sector.
During
the meeting, Canal+ representatives outlined ongoing efforts undertaken with
national regulatory bodies, including the Regulatory Authority for Electronic
Communications and Postal Services (ARCEP) and the High Authority for
Communication (HAC), aimed at curbing piracy and reinforcing enforcement
mechanisms.
The
discussions also reviewed the broader economic implications of audiovisual
piracy, particularly its effect on revenue generation and investment
attractiveness within the creative and digital industries.
Minister
Doumba reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting industry
stakeholders in safeguarding intellectual property rights, strengthening the
regulatory environment, and promoting a secure and innovation-driven digital
ecosystem.
Both
parties emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between public
authorities and private sector operators in addressing piracy challenges and
ensuring the sustainable growth of Gabon’s digital economy.
