Nigeria and Angola have strengthened bilateral cooperation in space science and technology following the signing of a new agreement between their respective national space institutions during the ANGOTIC 2026 ICT Forum.

The agreement was signed between the Director General of Nigeria’s National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Matthew Olumide Adepoju, and the Director General of Angola’s National Space Programme Management Office (GGPEN), GGPEN, marking a step forward in cooperation on space science, innovation, and technological development.

The signing took place shortly after the Nigerian delegation arrived in Luanda for the ANGOTIC Angola ICT Forum 2026, held at the CCTA Talatona Convention Center from 11 to 13 June.

According to officials, the agreement is intended to deepen collaboration in areas such as space research, capacity building, and the application of space-based technologies to support national development priorities.

The development was welcomed by Angola’s Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, Mário Oliveira, who acknowledged the significance of strengthened cooperation between African space institutions.

The agreement also received attention from international space stakeholders, including the President of the Portuguese Space Agency, Ricardo Conde, and the Chief Executive Officer of the South African National Space Agency (SANSA), Humbulani Mudau, alongside representatives of the African Space Agency, who were present at the forum.

Dr. Adepoju is expected to participate in a panel discussion titled “Lunar Economy and International Cooperation,” where he will contribute Nigeria’s perspective to ongoing global discussions on space exploration and governance.

The collaboration is part of broader efforts by African countries to expand participation in the global space economy and strengthen regional partnerships in space science and technology development.

NASRDA stated that the engagement reflects Nigeria’s continued commitment to advancing space research, fostering international cooperation, and leveraging space technologies for socio-economic development.
