The National Communications
Authority of Somalia has officially opened a National IPv6 Workshop in
Mogadishu, bringing together stakeholders from government, industry, academia,
and the technical community to advance the country’s digital infrastructure agenda.
The workshop was formally
opened by the Director General of the National Communications Authority of
Somalia, Mustafa Y. Sheik, who underscored the strategic importance of IPv6 as
a foundational protocol for the future of connectivity, digital services, innovation,
and emerging technologies.
In his remarks, he noted
that the rapid growth of internet usage and connected devices makes IPv6
adoption essential to ensuring that Somalia’s digital ecosystem remains
scalable, secure, and capable of meeting future demands.
The workshop is focused on
identifying practical pathways for accelerating nationwide IPv6 deployment,
with discussions covering technical readiness, policy considerations, and
cross-sector collaboration.
Participants were drawn from
government institutions, private sector operators, academic institutions, and
technical experts, reflecting a multi-stakeholder approach to digital
transformation.
The National Communications
Authority commended the National IPv6 Center and partner organisations for
supporting the initiative, and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening
Somalia’s digital infrastructure as part of broader national development objectives.
The workshop is expected to
contribute to ongoing efforts to modernise Somalia’s internet architecture and
enhance the country’s readiness for next-generation digital services.
