The ICT sector leadership in
Uganda, together with government agencies under the Ministry of ICT and
National Guidance, has convened for the official ministerial handover ceremony
aimed at ensuring continuity in the country’s digital transformation agenda.
The event, held at the
Ministry headquarters, brought together outgoing and incoming ministers, senior
government officials, and heads of sector agencies to review achievements and
outline priorities for the sector moving forward.
The Permanent Secretary of
the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, Dr. Aminah Zawedde, opened the
ceremony by expressing appreciation to the outgoing ministers, Hon. Dr. Chris
Baryomunsi and Hon. Godfrey Kabbyanga, for their service to the sector. She
also welcomed the incoming ministers, Rt. Hon. Justine Kasule Lumumba and Hon.
Alioni Yorke Odria, as well as the continuing Minister, Hon. Joyce Nabosa
Ssebugwawo.
Dr. Zawedde highlighted key
achievements recorded under the previous leadership, provided an overview of
the ICT sector, and outlined strategic opportunities and priorities aimed at
accelerating Uganda’s digital transformation.
Speaking on behalf of sector
agencies, Hon. Nyombi Thembo congratulated the newly appointed ministers and
commended the outgoing leadership for their contribution to the growth of the
sector.
He also expressed
appreciation to the Permanent Secretary for her leadership during the
transition period and reaffirmed the commitment of the Uganda Communications
Commission to expanding broadband penetration and strengthening communications
infrastructure across the country.
The ceremony underscored
government’s continued focus on leveraging ICT to drive economic growth,
improve public service delivery, and advance Uganda’s digital economy agenda.
