Ghana is set to host the 2026 edition of the ECOWAS Regional Hackathon in Accra from June 8 to 11, as part of efforts to strengthen cybersecurity capacity and innovation across West Africa.

The event will be hosted by the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) and is expected to serve as a strategic platform for identifying, developing, and nurturing young cybersecurity talent within the ECOWAS region.

According to the CSA, the hackathon will contribute to the development of a skilled regional cybersecurity workforce by providing a collaborative environment for participants to design and test practical digital security solutions.

The event will bring together young cybersecurity professionals, developers, researchers, and innovators from 12 ECOWAS member states. Participants will work in teams to develop scalable and practical solutions aimed at addressing emerging cybersecurity challenges affecting the region.

Organisers say the hackathon is designed to promote innovation in cybersecurity while strengthening regional cooperation in addressing digital threats and improving cyber resilience across member states.

The initiative forms part of broader regional efforts to enhance digital security infrastructure, build technical capacity, and support the growth of a secure and resilient digital economy in West Africa.
