The
International Astronautical Congress 2026 has recorded a historic milestone
following the release of its abstract selection results, reflecting increased
global participation and a growing emphasis on innovation and international
cooperation in the space sector.
Organisers
confirmed that a total of 8,330 abstracts were submitted from 108 countries for
the 77th edition of the congress, marking the highest number of submissions and
widest geographic representation in the event’s history. The congress is
scheduled to take place from October 5 to 9 in Antalya, Türkiye.
Following
a review process conducted by the International Programme Committee during the
IAF Spring Meetings in March, 4,619 abstracts were selected. This includes
4,077 accepted submissions and 542 designated as backups, resulting in an
acceptance rate of 55.45 percent, underscoring the increasing competitiveness
of the congress.
Selected
contributions have been allocated across a record 204 technical sessions, in
addition to daily large-scale interactive presentation sessions. Organisers
indicated that more than 61 percent of presentations will be delivered in oral
format, while 38 percent will take place as interactive presentations.
Country-level
participation reflects a broad distribution of contributions, with Türkiye
leading as host nation with 674 accepted abstracts. The United States followed
with 383 submissions, alongside China with 334 and Italy with 330. Other
notable contributors include Azerbaijan with 211, Germany with 202, the United
Kingdom with 183, Japan with 172, the Russian Federation with 123, France with
109, while India and Canada recorded 87 submissions each.
The
congress continues to position itself as a central platform for advancing
global dialogue on space exploration, technological development, and
collaborative solutions to complex challenges. Organisers noted that
contributions this year reflect both established space-faring nations and
emerging ecosystems, highlighting the expanding scope of participation in the
global space industry.
Participants
selected for the congress have been encouraged to complete early registration
and secure accommodation in advance, as demand is expected to be high. Early
bird registration options remain available for a limited period.
