Zimbabwe has
been elected to the Council of Administration of the Universal Postal Union
(UPU) for the first time in its 40-year membership history. The landmark
achievement was announced during the 28th UPU Congress in Dubai.
Honourable
Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services Tatenda Mavetera described the
election as a powerful endorsement of Zimbabwe’s leadership under His
Excellency President Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa and a recognition of the
nation’s commitment to innovation, inclusivity, and global collaboration in the
postal sector.

As a new member
of the Council, Zimbabwe aims to serve as a strong voice for Africa and the
Global South by advocating for equitable and sustainable postal policies,
championing tech-driven solutions to bridge the digital divide, and
strengthening global postal networks for future challenges.
The country
brings over four decades of UPU membership experience and hosts the UPU
Regional Office in Harare.

Minister
Mavetera extended gratitude to the national delegation, supporting member
states, and the Kenyan delegation for their collaborative engagement,
emphasizing that this achievement represents a victory for the entire African
continent.
