The University
of Bonn, the International Peace Alliance (IPA Space), and the United Nations
Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) have signed a four-year partnership to
strengthen global capacity-building in the peaceful use of space technology.
The agreement, formalized at a signing ceremony at the University of Bonn,
brings together high-level representatives from all three institutions to
support sustainable development and disaster risk reduction through space-based
solutions.

Ms. Aarti
Holla-Maini, Director of UNOOSA; Dr. Wang Tianyi, Executive Chair of IPA Space;
and Prof. Dr. Klaus Sandmann, Vice Rector for Studies, Teaching and University
Development at the University of Bonn, signed the agreement. The collaboration
will leverage the complementary strengths of each organization, anchored by
UNOOSA’s UN-SPIDER programme and IPA Space’s IPSPACE symposium platform, to
enhance knowledge-sharing, research, and educational initiatives.

The University
of Bonn’s Centre for Remote Sensing of Land Surfaces (ZFL), which supports the
UN-SPIDER Bonn Office, will play a key role in advancing the partnership’s
goals. The initiative responds to growing global demand for timely,
high-quality space-derived knowledge and training, aiming to ensure that space
technology benefits communities worldwide.
