Data
Commissioner Immaculate Kassait, is leading a delegation from the Office of the
Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) at the Global Privacy Assembly in Seoul,
Korea, held from September 15 to 20, 2025. This year’s assembly is convened
under the theme "The Future of Privacy in the Age of AI."
The Kenyan
delegation is actively participating in three key panel discussions during the
event. The topics include building on past experiences to navigate future
challenges for humanitarian action in the age of AI, enhancing interoperability
in cross-border data flows, and mastering investigation strategies and
enforcement tools.
In a
significant recognition of its work, the ODPC has been shortlisted for global
privacy and data protection awards in three categories: Education and Public
Awareness, Innovation, and Dispute Resolution and Enforcement.
Commissioner
Kassait, serving as the First Vice Chair of the Network of African Data
Protection Authorities (NADPA/RAPDP), will also deliver the network’s report
during the closed session of the assembly on behalf of Chairperson IRO Adamou
of Niger.
The ODPC
expressed pride in this international recognition, noting it reflects Kenya's
growing stature in the global privacy landscape. The office also acknowledged
the support of GIZ Kenya in facilitating staff participation at the event.
