The Malawi
Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has officially launched and handed
over MUST FM, a new campus radio station, to the Malawi University of Science
and Technology (MUST).
Branded
‘Intellect-on-Air’, the station represents a significant investment in
empowering students and strengthening the link between the university and the
broader community through media.
The handover
ceremony featured remarks from key stakeholders. Kelton Masangano, MACRA’s
Deputy Director of Broadcasting, urged MUST to manage the station with the
highest level of professionalism and to uphold broadcasting ethics, thereby
setting a positive standard for other institutions.
Professor
Address Malata, Vice-Chancellor of MUST, expressed gratitude to MACRA for
selecting the university for this initiative and acknowledged the enduring
support of the surrounding communities in the institution's development.
Student
representative Magret Mbendera highlighted the station's value, stating it
provides students with a vital platform to amplify their voices and gain
invaluable practical experience in broadcasting while still pursuing their
studies.
The newly
inaugurated station is equipped with a full FM radio and production studio.
With a broadcast radius of 15 kilometres, MUST FM will serve both the
university community and neighbouring areas, fostering greater engagement and
knowledge sharing.
