The Ministry of
ICT and National Guidance has reaffirmed its commitment to gender-inclusive
digital development with the official launch of the She-Data Science Program, a
global initiative designed to equip young girls and women with advanced skills
in data science, artificial intelligence, and related fields.
The program was
unveiled yesterday by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Aminah Zawedde, in
partnership with the African Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and
Data-Intensive Sciences, Makerere University, the Infectious Diseases Institute
(IDI), and the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases
(NIAID).

Dr. Zawedde noted
the government’s dedication to advancing digital inclusion through its Digital
Transformation Roadmap, which prioritizes skills development, innovation, and
women’s active participation in the ICT sector. She highlighted the importance
of embedding digital skills in educational curricula and supporting initiatives
that encourage more girls to pursue careers in technology, laying the
foundation for an inclusive and knowledge-driven economy.
The She-Data
Science Program aims to prepare women to embrace opportunities in the digital
economy and assume leadership roles in technology and innovation worldwide. By
providing practical training and mentorship, the initiative seeks to bridge the
gender gap in data-intensive sciences and empower a new generation of female
leaders in STEM.
