The Minister of
Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, has stressed the
importance of building public confidence in digital transactions by addressing
key challenges such as online scams, complex financial terms, and language
barriers. Her remarks came during a meeting with the MTC Maris team on
Wednesday afternoon, where discussions focused on enhancing digital financial
inclusion and security.
The meeting
included a presentation by MTC Maris on their newly introduced mobile-based
money transfer system. Both parties explored opportunities for strategic
collaboration, including potential partnerships through the Ministry’s upcoming
Mega Hackathon, financial literacy initiatives, and cooperation with other
government offices to integrate digital services more broadly into public
service delivery.
Minister
Theofelus highlighted the critical role of clear communication, user education,
and robust security measures in fostering trust and encouraging the adoption of
digital financial tools.
She reaffirmed
the government’s commitment to creating a safe, accessible, and inclusive
digital economy that serves all Namibians.
