The Senegalese
Agency for Space Studies (Agence Sénégalaise d'Études Spatiales, ASES) has formally
been welcomed as a new member of the International Association for Deep Space
Exploration (IDSEA). The induction ceremony which took place on during the
third edition of the Tiandu International Conference in Hefei, China marks a
pivotal moment in the ascent of Senegal's national space agency, positioning it
within a leading coalition of global space exploration entities.
The IDSEA
itself is recognized by experts and astronomers worldwide as a landmark
achievement in international cooperation and a driving force for innovation in
the space sector.

The
establishment of the association is considered a milestone in China's
collaborative space efforts and is the first international organization of its
kind dedicated to deep-space exploration to be initiated by China. Its
prestigious membership includes the Chinese Deep Space Exploration Laboratory,
the Lunar Exploration and Space Engineering Center, the Chinese Astronautical
Society, and the French planetary exploration program, Horizon 2061.
The event
garnered widespread international recognition, with sixteen global
organizations, including the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs
(UNOOSA) and the International Astronautical Federation, alongside over 70
ministries, space agencies, research institutes, and universities from across
the globe, sending letters and congratulatory messages.
The Tiandu
Forum served as a platform for ASES to define its collaborative roadmap with
the Deep Space Exploration Laboratory (DSEL). This follows the foundational
Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Senegalese agency and the China
National Space Administration (CNSA) in 2024.

A central and
immediate focus of this new partnership will be a major capacity-building
initiative. A cornerstone of the collaboration involves a comprehensive
training program designed to develop Senegal's human resources in the critical
fields of space science and engineering, empowering a new generation of
Senegalese experts to contribute to the global space community.
