The
CEO of Mobile Money Ghana Limited, Shaibu Haruna, has reiterated that Mobile
Money has become a cornerstone of the nation’s economy, empowering individuals,
transforming businesses, and accelerating progress toward the UN Sustainable
Development Goals.
Speaking
during Joy FM’s Super Morning Show broadcast live from the company’s
Head Office in Accra to mark the 16th anniversary of mobile money operations in
Ghana, he noted that from enabling secure, cashless transactions to supporting
small enterprises and driving financial inclusion, the service’s impact has
touched millions of lives.

Over
the past sixteen years, mobile money has evolved from a simple payment platform
into a critical driver of Ghana’s digital economy. It has enabled people in
urban and rural communities alike to access financial services previously out
of reach, bridging the gap between the banked and the unbanked. Businesses,
both large and small, have embraced the platform to receive payments, manage
transactions, and expand their reach.
Mr.
Haruna also state that the journey has been one of innovation and resilience,
shaped by the needs of customers and powered by a vision of a cashless,
inclusive economy, adding that mobile money has not only revolutionized
commerce but has also supported key national goals such as poverty reduction,
women’s economic empowerment, and increased access to essential services like
education, health, and utilities through digital payments.
He reaffirmed
the company’s commitment to collaboration with stakeholders, regulators, and
innovators to further strengthen the ecosystem, positioning mobile money as a
central pillar of Ghana’s economic growth for decades to come.

“This
journey would not have been possible without the trust and support of our
customers, the dedication of our incredible team at MobileMoney LTD and MTN
Ghana, and the forward-thinking leadership of our regulator, the Bank of Ghana.
We also recognise the invaluable contributions of the fintech ecosystem, our
bank partners, agents, merchants, suppliers, and every stakeholder who has been
part of this transformation,” he acknowledged.
“We extend heartfelt thanks to the
team from Joy FM for partnering with us on this celebration, and to my
colleagues Sylvia Otu-Acheampong and Godwin Tamakloe, whose insightful
contributions to the live discussion truly highlighted our shared passion for financial
inclusion and innovation,” the CEO added.
As
Mobile Money Ghana celebrates this milestone, the focus remains on deepening
financial inclusion, ensuring secure and seamless transactions, and harnessing
emerging technologies to meet the evolving needs of users.
