Dr. Tijani Bosun, the Minister of
Communications and Digital Economy of Nigeria, has held discussions with
acclaimed international actor Idris Elba and the leadership team of the Stellar
Foundation.
The discussions which centred on Nigeria's
creative economy, intellectual property and the transformative potential of
blockchain technology in Nigeria explored avenues to foster inclusivity and
provide monetization options for Africa’s creative sector.

During the discussion, Dr. Bosun emphasized
the importance of securing the rights of Nigerian artists and creators,
ensuring that they receive fair compensation for their work. The integration of
blockchain technology was identified as a promising solution to address these
challenges.
Blockchain, with its decentralized and
transparent nature, can provide a secure platform for managing intellectual
property rights. Through the use of smart contracts, artists can have greater
control over their work, receiving immediate and transparent compensation whenever
their creations are used or monetized.

The foundation's leadership team discussed the
potential of using Stellar's blockchain infrastructure to create a secure and
efficient system for monetizing creative content in Nigeria. By facilitating
direct transactions and reducing intermediaries, Stellar aims to empower
artists with a fair and transparent revenue distribution model.
British actor Idris
Elba last year forged a strategic alliance with Stellar Development Foundation,
the parent company overseeing the open-source Stellar Network. The primary
objective of the partnership is to investigate the potential of blockchain
technology in addressing financial inclusion challenges within the West African
region.

Elba’s introduction to
this collaboration transpired through his appearance in a promotional video
produced by the Stellar Development Foundation, as part of their ‘Where
Blockchain Meets the Real World’ campaign.
